Hi
how can I tag a service order number in a Purchase order? I can see that I can select a Job and a task, but what if I m buying a part for a specific service order, how can I do that?

Reserving Purchase Lines against Service Line is something that comes to my mind at present.
Try using the order planning page. There it will let you filter on the service order as demand it will then, depending on your item settings, suggest a purchase action. You can then create the purchase orders. I would recommend using reservations which the order planning page caters for too.

can you please elaborate on how to do that from the planning page? Also, will that only work for inventory items? how about if I m buying a service item like subcontracting for a Service order, will that work the same way?
