Impact on Users by changing the domain name

Hello,

Our customer is planning to change the name of their existing domain. What will be the impact of this action on the existing users? Will there be no impact or we will have to re-deploy?

Hi Fahad,

Are you referring to the impact on Office 365 users access to Dynamics 365 online? Or are you referring to a Dynamics 2016 on-premise instance?

In other words, are you changing the domain name on the on-premise AD or the Domain name associated to an Office 365 instance?

If it is online, then I can't see a direct impact on CRM customisations that may require a re-deployment. There may be an impact on logging in details for users especially for those who may have saved login details or cached through browsers.

For on-premise, then users shouldn't feel a direct impact upon logging in and I'm not sure if there will be an issue with customisation that may require a re-deployment.

Saying that, I would strongly recommend you test this out in an isolated environment to minimise all the other risks not just the logging or the customisations.

After you change domain. you need to go Deployment manager and redeploy your organisation. There you can map users to new accounts.

Not sure what's going to happen to the service accounts and everything else.. with the individual user accounts, you can probably just go to crm and update them, but that's if everything else keeps working(there are AD groups, server names, service accounts..)

Hi,

Thanks all for the responses. Please note that it will be a domain rename activity not moving to an entirely new domain. Don't know if that will have the same effect or not.
