Hi,

We are using GP 9.0 with dexiterity and VBA customization. The VBA customization is for printing crystal reports.

I tried to re-install GP in a test environment in preparation for upgrade. In the test environment, I installed GP 9 with SP2, same as what's on live; Restored SQL database in SQL 2005, applied the customization Chunk file, everything went ok. I was able to login to GP with no problem. I also went to Tools>>Customize>>Customization Maintenance>>Imported all the customzed report and Crystal reports.

However when I use Sales Transaction Entry in GP, where we have customization, received error message "There is no Recording Manager." When I try to print a customized report by Crystal Report, received following error message:

Unhandled object exception:

Invalid directory.

Exception_Class_Object_Exception

Question:

In additional to apply the chunk file and import customization. Is there anything else I need to do to enable the customization? Do I need to register customization DLL file? Where can I find the customization DLL file from live?

Hi,

You have followed the steps right,

Run GP as administrator mode. when GP get loaded Press ALT+F11 to open VBA Editor.

Make sure the references in both LIVE & UAT are same. sample reference snap as shown below.

You can step in the code to trace the root cause of that issue by comparing to LIVE.

If there is any Store procedure or SQL script associated with this process. please run the script to the appropriate databases before deploying the chunk & importing customization package( If you have the deployment guide follow the steps accordingly )

Thanks both of you for your reply. You gave great advise for us to move forward.

Here is what I've done so far:

1. Verified Crystal report version in both live and test, same version.

2. Copied RetrieveGlobals9.dll from live to test, registered the dll through command promt.

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP\RetrieveGlobals9.dll

(is this right?)

3. Compared the VBA customization references with live. It's now the same.

4. When to SQL maintenance --> choose the corresponding chunk product.

Click Drop table, Create table, Drop Auto Procedure, Create Auto Procedure option to process to activate the table(s).

5. I went back to Sales Transaction Entry window where we have customization, it first asked me to check a customization table. I updated the server name in the table mannual, (the SQL server name in Test is different than the server name in live)

6. I open the customized window where it's using crystal report print report; if I click on print, the customized report print OK. However if I click on "Preview" button, I got following error:

Unhandled object exception:

Class not registered

I went back to Sales Transaction Entry window where we have customization, it's still give me an error message: "There is no Recording Manager Accounts"

Question: What does this error message mean? Is it looking for a SQL login that VBA use to access SQL data? is it because SQL server name is different in test than live?

Hi,

In both UAT & Live server having same version of crystal report?

if different version, then the corresponding dll files need to be added in VBA customization references.

same version: make sure the associated dll are added in VBA customization references & make sure default references are checked in reference section(Compared from LIVE)

If it is GP 9, you need to register RetrieveGlobals9.dll from the below link

If the Chunk file contains any associated tables then go to SQL maintenance --> choose the corresponding database, choose the corresponding chunk product.

Hi,

It sounds like there is a dependency in one of your customizations that is not present on the new machine.

In one of the customizations windows where you get an error, open the VBA project (Alt+F11 when the window is open) and check Tools -> References.

If you see a missing reference, track that down and copy / register the necessary files or install the software dependency. (i.e. maybe the proper version of Crystal Reports is not installed, or maybe there is another customization or DLL that didn't get transferred)
