We are in the process of upgrading from Windows XP PRO to Windows 7 for or GP10 SP 5 clients. We most likely will not do this all at one time.
We getting the message that our REPORTS.DIC file must be upgraded using Dynamics UTILITIES. Looks like when we upgrade then the Windows XP clients produce the same error / warning.
Is there a compatibility issue with the Reports dictionary based on the client Windows 7 or XP PRO??

The major change between the two OSes (XP & 7) is the UAC (User Account Control). And there will certainly also be relevant application level changes to accomodate Windows 7. Though, logically there must not be any differences in GP across OSes, I would still believe that there is something (on your GP Application folder) that has changed when you upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. I would recommend the following:
1. Take a copy of the original REPORTS.DIC (compatible with Windows XP Pro).
2. Run GP Utilities (from the Windows 7 OS) and update the forms & reports dictionaries, by selecting the copy of REPORTS.DIC.
3. Check whether this process gets completed without any errors.
4. And then copy the updated REPORTS.DIC on to the shared destination, from where users are going to access.
The above may solve your issue. You can also try what Richard Wheeler had suggested. This could also solve.
You can also compare the versions of DYNAMICS.DIC on both Windows 7 machine and Windows XP Pro machine and confirm whether both versions are indeed same or have changed due to any unknown reason.
On the working computers, try to export them all out to a package file, delete the shared REPORTS.DIC and then import them back in to see if that corrects this issue.
Thank you for the response.
Yes, we use a shared REPORTS.DIC on the server. When referenced from a XP client it is ok but when from the Windows 7 client we get the upgrade notice. Checked the client versions and the set files (local to the client) and they are the same?
There's NO compatibility problem for different operating system (OS), but there IS for different versions of Dynamics GP. Do your users use a shared REPORTS.DIC?
