management reporter 2.0 to 2012

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We have a customer that is currently on Management Reporter 2.0.1700.31. They are getting a new server that we will be moving Management Reporter to. Along with the move we want to upgrade them to MR 2012 CU9. We are trying to figure out the best way to do this. Upgrade to MR2012 and then move MR or move MR and then upgrade to 2012. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bill

RE: management reporter 2.0 to 2012

Following the thought process here - we did a clean installation of MR2012 CU10 on a totally new server and even went so far as to change the port number from 4712 to 4713 so as to avoid any conflict with the current Management reporter.

That appears to have failed as we can not get back into the original 2.0 version of management reporter - the message is that there is not a valid connection when connecting to http://db:4712/

I was trying to follow your example of creating the new space then exporting from the old system and importing that into the new system.

Any suggesetion on how to get the old system back?  How do I change the or force the port issue with the old (2.0) management reporter.

If possible, can you call me - 780-994-2455 (currently 2:50 pm MST)

William, if you want to upgrade MR 2 to  MR 2012, your GP would be GP 2013 RTM or later. Better you can upgrade your GP to GP 2013 R2. Because R2 has released with many features.

    Hope this helps!!!

I just went through this with a client.  I did a fresh install of CU9 on their new server, exported the report building blocks to a tdbx file on the old server and imported them into the new installation of CU9.  It was effective and low-risk.  IT IS CHEAP INSURANCE TO GENERATE THE TDBX FILE PRIOR TO INSTALLING ANY NEW VERSIONS IN THE SAME NETWORK.  I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND HAVING A TDBX FILE SET ASIDE AS  A POTENTIAL DISASTER RECOVERY OPTION.

Thanks for the links. They are on GP2010 so it looks like if we want to upgrade them to MR 2012 it would have to be the RTM version.

    Thanks

What is your Dynamics GP version?

Management Reporter 2012 CU9 is support Dynamics GP 2013.

Have you upgraded your older Dynamics GP to GP 2013?

Before upgrade your Management Reporter, you need to check version compatibility between Dynamics GP and Management Reporter.

Please have a look on the below link to compare your Management reporter compatibility with Dynamics GP.
