Multiple locations - setup & demand planning

Hi All,

We have a MAIN (manufacturing) location and two warehouses - HUT and 3PL. All demand for ingredients originates from the MAIN location. Our business process is to transfer ingredients from HUT and 3PL to MAIN for manufacturing, and if inventory is not sufficient at both 3PL and HUT - purchase and deliver to HUT. I'm struggling to replicate this setup in D365 - I am able to setup linear planning using Stockkeeping units (purchase to 3PL, transfer from 3PL to HUT, transfer from HUT to MAIN), however, can't figure out how to setup relationship "transfer available inventory from 3PL to HUT, purchase remainder to HUT, transfer all inventory from HUT to MAIN". Any advice?

Thanks,

Victor

If you have already setup the daisy chain of replenishment methods from location to location, the only standard tool you have left available is the reordering policy. However, I don't think it will have the flexibility you are looking for.

e.g. it can't 'transfer available inventory'.

The key characteristic is that BC is demand driven. i.e. a demand signal triggers supply orders. You can have very different parameters at each location but it is only demand that will trigger a replenishment order.

Transfer available stock is a supply led trigger which is the opposite.

There may be extensions that can achieve something closer to what you are looking for.

Supply planning cannot be managed in BC using SKUs and the Req. or planning worksheet.

Your gap is that you sometimes purchase to location HUT and sometimes you transfer to HUT from 3PL.

I assume you might need to do that to optimize logistics and minimize transport costs.

One option is to run the planning worksheet and get the user to change the location on the worksheet lines manually if there is an opportunity to consolidate.

If planning rework is not an option, you should look at an inventory planning application. I have used a few inventory planning applications that can do what you need. Some also come with a standard BC connector. I can send you a couple of names if you share your contact details.

Hi, As far as I know, there is no relationship setup between locations in BC.

And there is no control for this part. If you want to add these features, you may need to customize.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.

Thank you for a clarification. Since we issue only few purchase orders per week it shouldn't be an issue to adjust them manually
