RE: Inventory Parts Returned to a Different part Number
Donnette,
The default behavior for GP is to move the item to a 'returned' item type. The theory here was that a returned item should not go into 'on hand' until it has been inspected. You would then transfer the item from the 'returned' type to the 'on-hand' type.
I do not know of any application that will let you transform the returned item to another item number, but I understand what you want to do and it could be very helpful. In fact, I think it's a good idea for future functionality and recommend that you post it on Microsoft\connect.
I have several clients that could benefit from this functionality. A workaround that we use first requires using lot numbers on the items so that the refurbished items are brought back in using the 'refurbished' lot ID. They have created a 'refurbish' item number that is actually a kit item type and they add the original item number as a component of the kit. The kit only has the one component.
It's difficult to track the refurbished items using this approach, so I have others doing the same kind of thing, except they use an assembly. The benefit of the assembly is that you can track quantities and put it back on the shelf. They have a SmartList reminder that monitors the Returned item type so that they know when they have items they need to deal with to get them back to an 'on-hand' quantity, but change their part number so that they are identifiable as refurbished.
Kind regards,
Leslie
