Sales order work multiple units same item

Hi

got a scenario coming for an item that I am yet to experience. I know a reasonable amount about the wms module and a little bit around sales orders and released products. The scenario is roughly this.

item A can be handled in 3 different units. PL when it arrives on a Purchase order, then it is picked for sales work (or will be) as either EA or BOX. So i am thinking we could have a unit of sequence group Id of EA BOX PL. and conversions between all of them like this example below. I am thinking maybe I don’t need the PL element in the unit sequence group though? As I believe I could still set a conversion like below to PL as the sales order work is to never pick in PL but only ea or bix, is this a solid thought process?

10 ea = 1 box

1 PL = 100 boxes.

the sales and purchase unit is going to ea. but what can I make the stock unit ea or box as I know it has to be one only? Do I just make it ea maybe?

And I worry also as this is the same item number and the sales unit is ea whether the customer wants it in box or ea, that say you have scenarios like below.

customer a orders 20 ea. they want 20 ea picked. But the unit conversion works out the sales work to be pick 2 box. How can I avoid this is it something on the sales order as I know in the wms work it will just be like I fear?

customer b orders 11 ea they again want this in ea not box. And again I fear and know tbh the sales work I will get here is most likely 1 box and 1 ea at best.

Even though having the items fixed to different locations maybe and have the location directives say create work for location 1 as ea and location 2 as box. But again the trouble is the item on the sales order is always ea and therefore what is passed to the wms is always ea anyway.

in then asked the sales team can’t they make sure on the sales line the unit box is used when the customer wants box and ea when ea is needed…but they refuse and said it’s a warehouse issue. But to me this would be the right place to do it. Or am I not knowing enough about sales process?

any input is appreciated as I have some time to test this before the items goes through Npd process.

ps I tried make them a different item number with senior directors.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi tl82,

I agreed with sales team, it maybe hard for them to input the correct unit.

In your scenario, sales team can always input unit as 'ea'.

And on product master we can setup 'unit sequence group' and 'unit conversion'

When pick works created in WMS, system will find the effective way to pick e.g. 11 ea, pick 1 box + 1 ea.
