Putting a transaction on hold

Posted on by 190

Hi,

I'm reading orders from an external website. I would like to put these orders on hold (equivalent to ctrl-f12 - Hold Transaction) in RMS.

Is there an API to do this?

What's the best way to go ahead with this?

    Thanks Ed,

    Indeed what I was looking for was the API for handling web orders - by building an xml and putting it in the exchange table, which is what I eventually used.

    We have used a few with good success -

    Nitrosell - highly automated, lots of built-in features, 50K Item limit, GUI, Web Catalog builder/Item management;

    24x7 Cart (Lan Services) - lots of options, tight integration, GUI, Web Catalog builder/Item management;

    bLoyal - emphasis on Loyalty, Clubs, Order processing; GUI, Web Catalog builder/Item management

    nChannel - Magento and Accounting integration, GUI, extension options;

    And maybe a couple of others. These all have various options for Mobile stores, eBay/Amazon etc. links, etc.

    Some use only their own cart and process; others have links to mainly one site but are willing to look at custom work. They are mostly in the same price range, nChannel more because the same platform and GUI can be used to integrate Accounting/ERP systems, and the Website is separate.

    Nitrosell Ecommerce and bLoyal Loyalty also work together; I had bugged them for years to get together, guess maybe others did too.

    I have spoken to i95Dev and their sites look very good, and their integration looks OK (no GUI or Web Catalog builder, just runs in the background) but we haven't worked with them yet. Also has Accounting/ERP links. Similar pricing to nChannel.

    We and other users I have spoken to have had issues with a couple of others I haven't mentioned here, including some that have been around for a while - not sure if this is the place for reviews and such, but if they are not mentioned here you may be forewarned.

    I also looked at Channelbrain, but that was recently purchased by one of those others. I reached out to them by phone and email to see if they had improved - but it's been at least a couple of weeks and no one has replied - so par for the course it seems.

    I have implemented NitroSell's add-on in the Spanish market, really a good product, stable, out of the box, lot of functionalities, erfect integration, etc., etc.,... I know there are few more on the market, but I didn't had the chance to work with them...

    Kind regards, A.

    I total agree that if you can use one of the many developed solutions that you will save money and time.

    ON a side note, the RMS sql tables that you are looking for are, TransactionHold and TransactionHoldEntry.

    No API to import an order into the hold queue.  The API does have some things for web orders but doesn't do enough to be a total solution.

    Thanks

    BTW one typical process is where the site runs a pre-auth on the customer card, then the web order is brought into RMS as an open Work Order, and the merchandise is Allocated so the Available inventory is correct.

    Then the fulfillment is done in RMS, with the shipping added and any changes made.

    There is a very inexpensive shipper integration for RMS to assist with this (Shiprush), or the manual process is OK if you don't have a lot of orders.

    Once the WO is closed, the merchandise is decremented from inventory. The integration sends notice back to the website, which then charges the card and send the ASN to the customer.

    This process is useful for any sellers with custom/customized products, or whose stock fluctuates a lot since it allows time to communicate with the customer in case of an out-of-stock.

    Users who sell a lot of repeat items, have almost everything on the site in stock or can get it right away, and may have default shipping charges on the items or the site is integrated to the shipper and calculates and adds it automatically, can use a method where the web sale fulfillment is done on the site manager, and the web sales are brought into RMS as Closed sales.

    RE: Putting a transaction on hold

    There are several really good integration modules.

    Many of the companies that provide this prefer to use their own cart since then they have control over the whole process.

    Some have pre-built integrations to a few of the major platforms, and some will do custom one-offs.

    It is much more time-consuming and costly to do a custom integration than to use a pre-built one.

    For example, you could typically get the entire Integration, Web Catalog builder, Ecommerce site and Payment gateway for less than it would cost just for a custom integration project.

    What platform are you using, and how much time and money do you have invested in it?

    Hi there.

    There is no API out of the box for all the websites, there are some partners who have done e-commerce integration add-ons. Assuming that this is not your case (you have independent e-commerce site), can you somehow "download" this orders from your web? If yes, in what format? Maybe, if you know the format, you can buld up some simple "pick up files" add-on that will automatically convert them into On-hold transactions...

    Kind regards, A.
