Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Client

Hi All:

Does anyone have any ideas on how to easily push the AX 2009 Client to over a 100+ workstations including SP1?  Our VAR has suggested a silent install using some documentation they forwarded to us but I'm trying to find tested alternatives that work?  Are most companies using some other software to push out the client?  Has any used Windows AD to push out the client, and if they have what steps were taken to accomplish this?

We are a new Dynamics AX 2009 Customer and just started our implementation a week ago.  Any help, advice or tips would really be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chetan

Create a script for silent install. Run that script only when the client isn't installed. Make this a part of the profile script that's running when an AD user logged on to the domain.

    Thanks Johan.

Sounds good but how did you or I should say how do we also push out the SP1 update that our VAR says we require.  Did you push that out as a silent install seperately?

    Thanks Chet.

the silent installation contains two (silent) installations:
    - first: AX Client SP0
    - second: AX Client SP1
    (in the future)
    - third: AX Client SP3

All in one script, two (silent) installations.

When the silent script for the AX Client SP0 is ready, the second (SP1) is very easy :)

Ok thanks Johan, I will give this a first try and let you know how I make out.  I hope you don't mind me pinging you with more questions if I stumble.

     Cheers.

I will give you a first step of your script. I used this for deploy of the AX 4.0 Client. It's just a example.

    :installatie_AX40_SP1_client
    start /wait \\<location>\AX40SP1\Setup.exe LogDir="C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dynamics AX\Dynamics AX Setup Logs" RunMode=Custom HideUI=1 AcceptLicenseTerms=1 LicenseTermsVersion=nl InstallAos=0 InstallClientUI=1 ClientInstallPath="c:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\40\Client" ClientAosServer=localhost ClientLanguage=nl

    start /wait ping -n 240 localhost

    :installatie_AX40_SP2_client_upgrade
    start /wait \\<location>\AX40SP2\Setup.exe LogDir="C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dynamics AX\Dynamics AX Setup Logs" HideUI=1 AcceptLicenseTerms=1 LicenseTermsVersion=nl UpgradeClientUI=1

    start /wait ping -n 240 localhost

I used a ping of two minutes (240 second) to be sure the first installation is ready. Maybe this can be more efficient, but it worked for me

And of course after this two installation, you can copy the shortcut(s) to the desktop of "All Users". Create a default shortcut to the right environment. Or make a central configuration.

Keep in mind that a workstation can be 32 or 64 bits (different path: c:\program files\... or c:\program files (x86)\... )

Thanks again, this gives me a good start.
