Demand planning without manufacturing on BC SaaS

I'm banging my head against functionality that just doesn't seem to work. I have inventory items setup with lot-for-lot replenishment and planning parameters. I've created a demand forecast for month to month net changes that clearly would take us out of stock. Yet selecting that demand forecast and running either requisition worksheet or planning worksheet generated no suggested lines or actions.

I've read multiple help pages and followed video tutorials. What looks like it should work just doesn't. I'm running the  latest service pack in the cloud.

Does anyone have any ideas?

What are the Replenishment System on the Item?

It is purchase if that's what you are asking. It is not a assembled item.

Does BC suggest supply orders, when, for example, you make a sales order?

When I want to test replenishment scenarios, I always make a new location, so I know I will start from an empty stock.

I suspect the issue is to do with forecasting. We have enough on hand stock to cover existing sales orders, but we have 90 - 120 day lead times on suppliers and so we need to use forecasts for that demand. It seems that the forecast is not being read as demand. Please note we are running Essentials not premium - but I was told that doesn't impact this capability.

So, the way I understand it the replenishment system works, only not forecasting.

I have just checked the Business Central Functionality guide, and both Deman Forecasting and Sales and Inventory Forecasting are part of the Manufacturing module, which is Premium functionality.

I have several customers who use advanced replenishment including forecasting and it does work quite nicely.

One way to work around the issue might be to use Blanket Sales Orders to genereate the forecast demand. Blanket Sales Orders are basically just a customer-specific forecast.

Interesting I thought they had moved it out along with availability to promise. After all a lot of distributors who don't manufacture need to forecast sales and plan purchasing.  All the worksheets still show up in my system and i can set a forecast. Not sure why they would allow you to set up all that detail and allow you to run planning functions. Not very user friendly. No warnings are given.

It actually seems you may be right. I may have looked at an ooutdated version - sorry :-)

In this version, only Sales and Inventory Forecasting are Premium functionality, but Deman Forecasting are moved to Essentials functionaliity.

No problem. Although if anyone can tell me the point of doing a demand forecast that can't be used in any supply planning please let me know. Honestly I'm confused by the difference between what these are and why they interact in this way.

I came from SAP Business One that on Hana has such as super intuitive and simple demand forecasting, planning and availability to promise system. I'm hoping this gets dramatically improved soon.
