Edit Locked Field

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

In one of our forms, there are certain fields that are being locked after we saved the form.

For some reason we need to edit these values like from Yes to No or vice versa.

In the form editor the field property "Lock the field on the form" already un-ticked, but still the lock is there on the field,

How can I unlock the field to edit it then lock it again?

Thank you

    RE: Edit Locked Field

Looks like some confusion. “Lock the field on the form” in form editor has nothing to do with field disabling or padlock in browser.

Refer my answer in SO to understand better:

If you want to correct the incorrect data entered by users and when such business logic is in place in form script/business rules, then you should have Tool admin form without such scripts/rules for supervisor/manager security role. Atleast System Administrator form should be in place for Prod support folks/developer to fix it.

"the field is unlocked by default, means when we open the form, this look up  field is open to select its value, once we fill all the required fields and save the form, it locks the field to be edited any more" - It means there is some logic on the JS or Business rules which is making this field locked, check under forms and disable the code for the time being, or you can export this record in excel change the value and remport it back to CRM.

Did you check customization part  ? There should have something in the  update form which locked the field.

thank you Pravin, the field is unlocked by default, means when we open the form, this look up  field is open to select its value, once we fill all the required fields and save the form, it locks the field to be edited any more.

what happened is the user with the permission to fill the form entered a wrong value, and saved it. then the field got locked.

now we need to enter the correct value.

so the user already have the required permission to use and fill the field, but the problem it was locked after saving the form

What type of field it is ? if its lookup then make sure you have read/append /append to access rights  in the security role of the lookup entity to view  the records and in addition you need to remove the relationship business requirement.

Also I already suggested to  check if  there any JS or business rules which making field locked. Don't forget to do  published form or do publish all customization.

If its does not help try to remove the field and add again in the form.

    Hope this helps.

If this field type is lookup then please assign read access to that lookup entity to the respective user security role.

    Hope this help you. !

    Hi Shaka ,

What you can see in the edit field properties? you need to make the field requirement as optional.

In addition might be solution have some business rules in the entity  or JS customization which making field locked in the form onload . So you need to check this .
