With the recent nomenclature changes to the Microsoft business and collaboration products we have a lot of confusion on how to represent Dynamics 365 with our customers. Here are the questions that I hope someone can answer with certainty.
Is D365 part of Mircrosoft 365, Microsoft 365 being the parent and D365 being a child?
or
Is D365 part of the enterprise O365?
Or
Is D365 its own separate entity, a peer to Microsoft 365?
Thanks,
Bryant

Hi:
Here is now how I understand it after Microsoft updated some definitions on July 14th:
There is the Microsoft 365 Suite which includes M365 Business and O365 Enterprise so if you go to market targeting enterprises you position O365 segment of the M365 Suite. docs.microsoft.com/.../office-365-platform-service-description
D365 is exactly how you stated and a separate platform where most of the components are based on the CDM and CDS.
I appreciate your help in clarifying this.
Hi BryantB,
D365 is a new, cloud-based enterprise software platform, bundling ERP, CRM and HCM products alongside Power BI reporting functions in one streamlined, unified package.
O365 is Microsoft’s cloud-based productivity suite, which includes desktop apps from the office suite which includes: Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and cloud services for Exchange, Skype and Teams.
M365 is a bundle of services that includes Office 365. It also includes Windows 10 Enterprise, Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS), and machine learning.
D365 and O365 are not competitive, they are complementary. They do not need to be integrated because they are natively connected to each other. You can combine D365 for sales (CRM) with your Office applications for a complete business system.

Hi,
In a glance:
Dynamis 365 covers business applications e.g. ERP, Sales, Customer Services, Filed Services, etc.
However, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) covers collaboration and productivity tools like Word, Excel, Email, Team, etc.
Hope this clarifies.
Let me know.
Thanks,
Wahaj
