Derived batch attributes

Customer requirement is to configure batch expiry date calculation based on the ingredient with the shortest expiry date in D365 F&O.
These below setups were suggested which uses batch attributes and derived attributes to ensure the expiry of the finished batch reflects the shortest expiry of the raw materials used.
1. Create Batch Attributes - Able to achieve
2. Create Batch Attributes - Able to achieve
3. Assign Attributes to Products - Able to achieve
4. Create and Set Up Derived Attributes - Not able to achieve
5. Assign Derived Attribute to Formula - Not able to achieve
6. Configure Batch Number Group for Finished Product - Not able to achieve

Please suggest if any feature needs to enable for the same or if we are missing any setups.

    Hi,
Thanks for sharing the details. This sounds like a common requirement in process manufacturing—ensuring that the expiry date of the finished batch is based on the shortest expiry of the raw materials used.

The steps you've listed are partially aligned with what AI models or blogs might suggest, but unfortunately, this logic is not fully supported out of the box in current D365 F&O versions.

    Specifically:
Derived attributes can't directly calculate expiry based on input batches.
Batch number group configuration doesn’t handle expiry derivation either.
There’s no feature today that pulls expiry dates from input batches and calculates the finished batch expiry accordingly.
    Recommendations:

Consider exploring the new Enhanced Quality & Compliance features coming in 2024/2025, announced here:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-365/blog/it-professional/2025/04/25/enhance-quality-compliance-dynamics-365-scm/
If critical, this would require a customization—possibly extending the batch attribute logic to evaluate raw material batches used in the formula at the time of RAF.
    Warm Regards,
    Zain
