Made to order

Hi.  We have a AX2012 R3 solution.  We need to setup some items that that are "made to order" regardless of any stock on hand levels. In other words, we need AX to create production order(s) when explode a sales order regardless of the quantity on hand for the item.   Is this possible in AX2012 R3?  If so, how would we configure an item so that this rule applies.  Regards. James.

    Hi James,

You can  override item coverage settings for each part number. Go to Product Information management - Released products, search for your desired item - select Plan tab from top action pane & click Item Coverage.  In Item coverage form switch to General tab, tick "Override coverage group settings" and put Positive days to 0, therefore when MRP runs - it will generate planned orders for every future demand you have within Coverage time fence while ignoring your current on-hand stock.

    Kind Regards,

    V

    Hi James,

Did you try with a plan as "include on hand inventory"  No

Pls try the below steps, this may work :)

    1. For Made to order items separate Plan to created

    2. Created plan to have the setup "on hand inventory" as No

    3. To include certain items on Plan, say "Made to Order", these items can be segregated with separate group say "Buyer Group"

    4. Plan can be scheduled in Batch for the this Buyer group, this would generate the orders for the Made to Order demand quantity, without consideration of on hand stock.

    Regards

Hi. I agree somehow with the solution.

But in this case, you have a lot of questions to answer as well.

    - Like valuation : don't you need to make a marking between Sales order and Production Order ?

    - Like considering the variety of BOM : if it is made on demand, does this mean you have a different BOM/route ? In this case, you could also consider the setup of coverage group stating

    BOM version requirement

If you select this check box, a particular bill of materials (BOM) version affects coverage planning. For example, for a sales order, you can indicate in the Item number field that the items that are ordered must be produced by a particular BOM version. If that version is not the active BOM version for the item, a new planned production order is created. Requirements that are derived from the specified BOM version are used, regardless of the current inventory available.

Consequently, you may give some additional details in this very common question. Answered with a variety of potential solutions.

    Regards
