Impact of Batch Below and Batch Above in Discrete Manufacturing

Hi Team,

I would like to understand the impact of Batch Below and Batch Above on reservation hierarchy in a discrete manufacturing business. Additionally, I want to know how these settings affect subsequent activities.

For example, in a transfer order, if Batch Below is selected, the batch will not be suggested while picking. How does this impact further processes such as production and sales?

Looking forward to your insights.

    Good day,

If 'Batch above' is active, the warehouse worker must pick a specific batch, as the system enforces this selection. You also have the option to make a reservation for a specific batch. However, if you want to make or modify a reservation for a specific batch number, you can only do so on the sales order.
With 'Batch below', the warehouse worker/picker has more flexibility during picking and, in theory, can choose any available batch. However, Microsoft has introduced the 'Flexible warehouse-level dimension reservation policy' feature. This feature allows reservations for a specific batch number but does not make it mandatory.

    Hi Laurens,

Thanks, Now days for your valuable reply.

Can you suggest which reservation hierarchy is most commonly used in discrete industries? Additionally, based on your past experience, which hierarchy have you implemented?

    Good day.

    Hello Shubham,

You're welcome. I've implemented the batch hierarchy with Batch below and also activated the Allow reservation on demand order parameter. Would you be able to mark the question as answered?

    Best regards,
    Laurens van der Tang
