CRM - SharePoint Integration through middle web services

Hi everyone,

Recently I'm working on a CRM project that requires integration with SharePoint. My client wants to have a middle web services (WCF) in between CRM and SharePoint. Something like this CRM -> WS -> Sharepoint.

The basic scenario would be, from CRM:

- Create folder or document library in SharePoint

- Send documents (binaries) to programatically to SharePoint

- Create new site collection if the existing one is nearly full

Is there any difficulty if we're doing this ? Would it work with future version of CRM and SharePoint ? Would it work with List Component ? Would it work with Server - Server integration ?

Thanks for your help.

    Hi

This would work ok, However there are 2 things to highlight. The code would have to be checked each time there is an update to make sure nothing has changed (there is not usually anything on this front but saves egg on the face) The other would be to do with multiplexing - if this is being used to stop having CRM or Sharepoint licenses then obviously it is not allowed

    Hi Mark,

Let's say the license isn't an issue. My concern is the viability of this approach. Is it overkill for unidirectional between CRM and SharePoint ? I would use a service account to connect from CRM to WCF to Sharepoint,  does it work with Server based authentication ?

    Hi

You can use out of the box Data Management in CRM to connect the 2.

If you used it on the Account record for example for every new account it would create a sharepoint folder for them, This would allow you to add documents from CRM or sharepoint and them appear in both places.

One thing i don't think out of the box you could do is creation upon Quota % that is something that would need custom code - this is where the webservice would be a good idea as it can write back any changes to either system

Are you looking to do this without custom code? If so, I don't see any options.

However if you are willing to write custom code, everything you ask for is possible. But then you need to develop your own custom integration.

    Hi Martjn,

Yes, there will be custom code, WCF server is custom code. There will be custom code in both end as well.

How to configure the Server based authentication from CRM to SharePoint with the WCF server in between ?

    Thanks

Depending on your requirements you can simply use a service account for SharePoint onpremises or app only permissions for SharePoint online.

I don't know if you could do delegated authentication in an onpremises situation.
