AX Warehouse mobile device portal - Users can't login (times out)

Dear fellow AX community users,

I'm struggling with a problem I cannot solve. Maybe one of you can shed light on the problem and point me in the right direction.

Setup:  Load-balanced AX Warehouse mobile device platform on two servers; e.g. SRV01 and SRV02.

Problem: Every morning between 08:15 - 08:45AM a problem occurs while logging into the mobile device. They can enter a userid and when they hit CR the screens keeps loading. This happens on either SRV01 or SRV02, not both. This problem hits multiple mobile device users on multiple locations in the warehouse. Also when I visit one of the two mobile device pages I can't login either. We've also had an SQL-expert take a look at expensive queries/locking but he couldn't find anything during the time the error occurred.

The weird thing the problem automatically corrects itself after 10-15 minutes.

Possbile problems I checked:

  • User/Server batches running between these times | Checked. No batches are running and no user processes are one the same AOS-servers or ask data from the same table
  • System back-ups | Checked. Even with all backups turned off the problem exists.
  • AOS connection | Checked. All our AOS's are online and functional when the problem occurs
  • IIS Mobile device portal site status | Checked. Sites are online when the problem occurs
  • Eventvwr SRV01 / SVR02 | Checked. Both servers display no errors
  • Network connection | To do: Connect laptop to mobile device SSID and do a continuous ping to SRV01 and SRV02
  • Activity on table WHSWORKUSERSESSION | To do: check if this table is available/no lock exist

I'm pretty much out of ideas.

    Hi Crispin,

Our users login around 08:00-08:05. A survey I did on the floor points out that most of the users are already logged in when this problems occurs.

This could also mean that users are getting logged out.

They are using Windows CE. Casio and Motorola handhelds.

    Regards,

    Berthil

I think I have solved our problem.

Another returning error in the eventviewer of our mobile device servers was an ASP error.

    Custom event details:

After doing some research this problem could be caused due to different machineKeys if you have load balanced multiple mobile device servers. What I did to solve this:

    - Created Dummy IIS website
    - Generated machineKey for this website

    - Copied machineKey string from web.config

    - Added machineKey string to web.config from our mobile device platform website on both SRV1 and SRV2

The day after no complaints! So fingers crossed if this solved the issue!

    Regards,

    Berthil
