Below site contains all the information you need about eConnect:
dear Ian
i need to download econnect brochure, but i could not find any material for econnect , thanks to help
Hi, again, not sure I can help just now. Do you have integrations to do? What kinds of data do you want to integrate (SOP transations, GL journals, Cash Receipts etc.)? Hw often do you want to run these integrations? What quantity of data will be in each integration? What systems is the data coming from? Are these bespoke developed systems (developed in house) or are they packaged software supplied by a third party?
The reasons I am asking the above questions are:
If volumes are light and it happens say, once a month - maybe Integrtion Mnager would suit.
If it is a packaged software, you might need the supplier to help you export the data to be integrated into what we call an Outbound table - ie the external system populates an interim table with the transactions that it wants integrated - or maybe you have the in house skillsto do this yourself. If it is internally deeloped software, then you do have the skills to prepare the outbound tables yourself.
Just to be 100%...you don't have to install eConnect, Integration Manager or webservices unless you are going to use them. GP doesn't need these installd to work normally.
Your comment above 'So I need just your ideas where and how you will program with this tool.' - notsurewhat you want here. eConnect is a developers tool, and as such, there is quite a bit of training / experience required to use it. If you ae technically minded, you could start by reading the user manuals etc. But this site isn't really the forum to give user trainig etc. If you want to PM me with your requirements, I can certainly advise further.
Best regards,
Dear Ian,
Again thanks for the reply. I am not sure this eConnector where to install in server or local pc. I installed GP 10.0 on the server. I have done some setups. Also I found in 2nd CD, contains webservice, integration manager, econnect etc., I installed integration manager, webservice on the server. But I don't know eConnect for what and purpose. After your reply I came to know that this is used for integration purposes as well as can do the programming with this tool. So I need just your ideas where and how you will program with this tool.
Also I didn't found any document for eConnect 10.0. after the installation.
Hope I am clear.
BR
HI, I can't answer that.
Do you have integrations into GP that need to be developed? Have you third party systems you want to send data to GP?
If you are technically / programmer minded, you can read the manuals for eConnect and see can you get started. Otherwise you will be looking at contracting a consultant to help develop your integrations, or indeed provide training.
Why was it installed on your PC? I presume that if you bought it, it was bought for a reason?
If you need help with eConnect projects, just ask.
Best regards,
Dear Ian,
Thanks for the reply. As you are telling how it allows external systems to allow interact programmatically? As I know, eConnect 10.0 is a tool which was installed on my local pc. Now how I will use this tool programatically?
BR,
eConnect is an integration tool for Dynamics GP, allowing you to create robust integrations with excellent error handling and reporting. It allows external systems to programatically interact with GP to create / update / delete information including Master Records (Account codes, Supplier records, Inventory Items etc.) and Trasactional Records (Sales Invoices, Inventory Transfers, Cash payments, GL Journas etc.). It obeys all of the core business logic of GP so that 'Bad' data really cannot be integrated - eithre the record obeys GP business logic, or it is rejected and an error message generated.
eConnect 10.0 is the latest version and includes some improvements on previous versions. For a start it includes new schemas for Analytical Accounting Dimension code maintenance (and you can now add AA distribution analysis to quite a few transactions), and you can create Fixed Assets Books. Automatic GP numbering has been extended to core module (RM,PM,POP,Inventry,GL) transactions (previously it was only available in SOP transactions). You can also update individual fields in Debtor and Supplier master records - ie: an existing supplier record can have just one of its fields updated, rather than sending in the complete record again. 10.0 does not support eConnect COM objects anmore - so any integrationsusng COM must be convrted to .net.
To be honest, I'm an eConnect Evangelist! I love the product and its a GP developers dream.
Depending on a cost benefit analysis of your requirements, eConnect is definately the best option in my opinion for integrating externally generated data into GP. Anywhere where we have implemented eConnect, it has lead to a significant reduction in management time, especially IT mangers time - pushing quite a bit of the problem resolution time into the hands of non-technical users.
Once testing has been completed and eConnect goes live, integrations genrally only fail for two reasons:
1. Set up issues in GP. For example, eConnect is trying to integrate a sales invoice, but the Sales Period is closed. A user sees this error message and simple opens the period. Next time eConnect tries to integrate this document, it gets in successfully. These kind of errors will be ongoing, but are normal daily business decisions and can be resolved by normal users.
2. Problems with the source system data. For example, a sales invoice is sent by the external system, but it neglects to send the customer ID. eConnect attempts to integrate and rejects it with the message - 'Debtor ID Missing'. These kinds of problems are front heavy in that they occur in the early days, and as the people responsible for producing the external system data resolve these issues, they peter out over time.
Hope the above gives you a feel for the product. No doubt, others will have info to add. Post again if you have any questions.
