Problems closing year

Posted on by

So I hard closed 2013 for one of our entities and it did not close properly.  For some reason retained earnings never posted.  I've been working with our consultant on this and he can't figure it out.  Its an anomaly considering all our other entities closed.  I'm not sure how this can be fixed.  Any advice would be extremely helpful.

So we finally found the answer to this problem.  Supposedly the historical tables were corrupt thus year-end rollovers were not allowed to post.  Hope this helps anyone that has a similar problem.  Thanks for everyones suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestion Leslie.  I'm currently working with our consultant to resolve this problem.  Supposedly he received a solution from MS to fix the problem.  MS stated that the GL history table was corrupt.. I'll keep everyone posted if this solution works.  I'll also forward your message to our consutlant.

    Hi,

What was the error?  If you are trying to close to Divisional Account Segments, look at your GL40200 table and make sure you have a retained earnings main account set up for each of the divisional segments. It doesn't matter whether you have anything that would actually close to that segment, GP requires the account to exist before it will go forward.

Another less common error that will prevent a close is if one of the transactions in the GL20000 table uses a bad account index. Make sure every ACTINDX field in the GL20000 includes a valid record. Valid would mean a match to the GL00100 and GL00105 table.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Before you do that you might want to look at what is in your GL00100 and GL00105 tables and make sure you don't have any blanks.  Or accounts that aren't right.

There is an article as well on a year-end not closing, that just reminded me when I had an issue with a company and we were closing to a segment of the chart of accounts.  I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't close until I looked at the two tables above.

Here is the article to check community.dynamics.com/.../year-end-closing-retained-earnings-validation.aspx

    Frank,

We've backed up and have closed multiple times with the same error.  This error is something Microsoft said they've never seen before.  Our GP consultant was on a web meeting trying to recreate the problem in a test company and they couldn't figure out what was going on.  They've created additional debugging scripts yet there has yet to be a solution.

Do you have a backup you can restore and attempt the close again?  It may have been a momentary network comm failure.
