Error Accessing Management Reporter After 'sa' Password Change.

Hi All,

A couple of weeks ago we changed the 'sa' account password. After the change the password was updated in the MR Configuration Console by clicking Update Dynamics GP Credentials, Update data mart credentials, and then clicking reconfigure change tracking. After the password was changed all users now receive a message "Unable to connect to the 'Our Company' you don't have access to this company." when attempting to set our company as default. This is happening for all of our MR users. Checking the Windows and SQL logs shows a failed login attempt for the 'sa' user at the same time as the failed login for the AD account trying to access MR which leads me to believe MR is still attempting to authenticate using the old 'sa' password but I can't seem to find where else this needs to be updated. Any advice is appreciated. We still have access to the configuration console unlike some of the other posts I have seen and I am starting to run out of ideas.

Thanks,

Kirk

    Hello KirkLivermont,

You didn't mention if you bounced the application service and process service after changing the sa password.

    Worth a try.

    Hello Ven,

I have tried restarting both services after updating the sa credential in MR. It didn't seem to make any difference.

    Thanks,

    Kirk

    Hi Kirk,

I had a similar situation like this and I restarted both SQL then MR server then restart the MR application and process service have you tried this.

I ended up needing to open a support incident to figure out what was going on. We are on an older version of MR (I believe CU2) and after importing the companies via the MR Configuration Console access was temporarily restored until the Company to Company integration ran at which time the new 'sa' credentials were being overwritten by the old. As a temporary fix we disabled this piece of the integration until we can get updated to a later build.

What would you suggest when the IT director changes the password on the domain service accounts that run MR? We had a group do that and I tried everything I could think of doing to get back into MR and it refused. This was MR CU15. They did not know what the original password was so we could not set it back. I went as far as deleting the DataMart but once I did that I could not get it to be recreated.  The error logs kept saying the password for 'sa' was wrong even though the 'sa' password was never changed. Finally I deleted the ManagementReporter database and fortunately I had exported the building blocks last month so they did not lose too much. Where are those credentials kept? In what table?

    Richard,

Were you able to access the configuration console after the password change? If not I would delete the two services and reinstall them and reconnect to the existing database.

Let me know if you want the instructions to do this.

Yes, I had completely uninstalled MR and the two services were removed. It appeared to me that it was accessing some table in the ManagementReporter database and grabbing the 'sa' credentials or so it appeared. Once I blew away both the DataMart and the Management Reporter database all returned to normal. This was the second time this group had done this. The first time I was able to recover but not the second time.

@Kirk: I am glad you were able to resolve the issue encountered. That is good to hear!

@Richard: Please let me know if the customer continues to encounter this problem. If possible, I would suggest they install MR to a test environment and confirm they can re-create the issue there. Then, lets work together to figure out what is "stuck" through a support case so we can figure out if there is a fix we need to release so the same problem does not occur in the future. There are some changes planned for the next CU to help clean up old data mart integrations which may already fix this, but if we can test and confirm before the next CU releases that would be best, since a new fix may be able to be included there. The sooner we can work on this the better!
