Migration CRM on premise to online

Posted on by 150

Hello,

i'm working on migration process from dynamics CRM 2016 to CRM online 365.

i created a solution that contained all the entities and the option set , etc..Then i exported this solution but i;m facing an issue in the importing phase on the CRM online.

the issue is following:

The import of the solution [solution name] failed. The following components are missing in your system and are not included in the solution. Import the managed solutions that contain these components ([name of missing solution] ([solution version])) and then try importing the solution again."

i noticed that there is managed solution in the premise version so i installed the Ribbon workbench 2013 and 2016 but there is still the two following managed solutions that should be added to the online CRM

  1. Dynamics XRM tool 2015
  2. RoleBasedViewsHolding

How can i add these 2 managed solutions in order to the online CRM in order to be able to import the exported solution?

Thank you

    Hello,

First, make sure that you are not using those managed solutions. If it is the case, you can try to extract the solution file you are importing, and open the xml files, and then remove all the dependencies to those managed solutions.

Once done, you can compress your files again and try to reimport the updated solution file without the solutions.

If those solutions are required in your environment, you must have them as Jarrod suggested, and you have to import them before you import your main solution.

    Hope this helps!

    Charles.

    Hi

On top of what Jarrod suggested, you could try using the XrmToolBox Managed Solution Deletion tool to see if that helps to uninstall the solution on your on-prem environment

If these solutions dont have many dependencies, i would recommend you remove them from your On-Prem solution, publish all and then export and import to Online instance.

This way you could have a clean solution brought to new environment.

You have two options neither of which is probably going to be that easy.

    1. Track down where your company originally got those solutions and get copies of them.

    2. Uninstall those managed solutions from your organization and resolve any dependency issues.

The major downside of managed solutions is for these kinds of migrations.  You could also contact your MS rep SAM or TAM and see what kind of options are available for service wise to just have your database imported directly.
