Manf. Allocation

In our test company we have turned on the auto-allocation of parts in manufacturing.  I have run two MO's through the system and according to GP and the MOPS table the components are allocated.  However, I have an issue, as these items are lot controlled and no where can I find the lot numbers chosen for these allocations.  I have checked the GP windows and the IV00102 table and allocation show but when I drill down or check the IV00300 and wip/mo tables I cannot find any evidence of allocation at the lot level.  Allocation with out lot level identification doesn't make sense to me, so what am I missing?  The end result we are looking for is the system to print out the lots to be picked/consumed using FIFO.

PS We will soon be testing this for sales orders as well so feel free to chime in on the issues we maybe facing.

    RE: Manf. Allocation

There is a flag in the system to auto assign lot numbers but I think that is for Sales.  It give you a couple of options (oldest first, lowest lot number first, FIFO) but that does not ensure that it matches the ones issued by the picker.  To make sure the picker picked lots and the ones on the form are the same, they need to be matched.

Now, that is for manufacturing, SOP will allow you to allocate lot numbers as they can be printed on the SOP Picking ticket.

is there a way to use this functionality to auto issue with lot numbers since the allocation doesn't do it.  Also, will I face this same issue with the auto function for Sales Orders?

    RE: Manf. Allocation

The pre-allocation of lot/serial numbered items is a problem as those items cannot be over allocated.  Thus if you have 10 in stock and need 20 for a series of MOs, the allocations will fail.  You almost need to not allocate on release of the MO and, when the quantity needed for the MO arrives and is about to be issued, allocate at that time, reserving the quantities on hand for the MO.  This is not an easy process and requires typically use of the Manufacturing Component Entry window to perform the allocation before issuing the components.  If you use some of the scanning systems available, some have an allocate on issue option.  (Items MUST be allocated before they can be issued in GP unfortunately.)

As for the lot numbers, lots are not pre-allocated.  The allocation on the total quantity is done during the pre-release allocation and, at the time of issue, specific lots can be selected.  It is assumed that the actual lot being issued may arrive after release of the MO but before consumption.  But then the issued described above gets in the way.
