Asset Deletion

Posted on by 8
I need to delete a particular asset (Automation) but get an error message while attempting to delete it.  "Assets cannot be deleted while dependent asset hierarchy exist. Delete dependent asset hierarchy and try again".

I have deleted all information describing the asset, but I am unable to delete the asset. (Automation)

What am I missing? Is there a work instruction that details the protocol for deleting an asset?

Thank you,  Tim Fearnow

    Hi,

    Please check out this

Delete an asset or asset structure

If an asset has related sub-assets, you can delete it only if no maintenance requests, work order jobs, fault registrations, or condition assessments are registered on any of the assets.

    1. On the All assets list page, select the asset to delete.
    2. Select Delete.

     Note

If you can't delete an asset by using this procedure, another way to handle deletion is to set up an asset lifecycle state for this purpose. For example, you can set up a Scrapped or Deleted lifecycle state on the Asset lifecycle states page.

    Hi,

Can you please check once from Asset view page in Assets management by changing the view to Assets.. It will clearly shows the dependencies.

I have replicated the same error in my test environment.

Once you are able to locate then you can remove the parent assets from dependent child assets from here; or move to parent asset as the case may be.

If possible, you can share some more details after looking at above view.

    Regards,
    Neeraj Kumar

Hi, I came across this thread as I was running into the same error message when trying to delete an asset in D365 SCM.
The asset has no dependent asset structure, but I still got the error message.

Turns out it was a maintenance job in a work order on this asset. After deleting the maintenance job line, I was able to delete the asset.

To me, it seems like this is a false and misleading error message in D365.

    Running : 10.0.45 (10.0.2345.71), Installed platform version : Update69 (7.0.7690.69)
