RE: Custom Position Hierarchy - CRM 2015

Let's say we have a position hierarchy like this:

    President

         Vice President 1

               Director 1

                     Manager 1

                            Team Member 1

                            Team Member 2

                     Manager 2

                            Team Member 3

                            Team Member 4

               Director 2

                     Manager 3

                            Team Member 5

                            Team Member 6

                     Manager 4

                             Team Member 7

          Vice President 2

               Director 3

                     Manager 5

                             Team Member 8

Let's say the hierarchy level is set to 3

    Modification (read, update, append, appendto)

    1.  Each position can update any records that are in the same ancestor tree for the direct level below.

         a.  Director 1 and Director 2 can modify Manager 1, Manger 2, Manager 3, Manager 4 records but they can not modify Manager record 5 because that is under a different tree

         b.  Manager 3 and Manager 4 can modify Team Member 5,6,7 because they are both under Director 2 but they can not modify Team Member 8

    Read

The level will control how many levels deep you can read the records below in the same tree.

         a.  President can read the their own, VP, Directors

         b.  VP can read (in the same ancestor tree) their own, director and manager

Example is VP 1 can read records for Director 1,2, and Manager 1,2,3,4

If you changed the hierarchy level to 4 then VP 1 could go all the way down to read team member records 1-7.

Hope this helps clarify for you.

    Thanks,

    Hi Kishor,

The hierarchy depth in custom position hierarchy reflects the number of levels deep the users above can read the records from the positions below them in the hierarchy.  They will be able to "read" the records of the positions below in the direct ancestor path that many levels deep.  Also based on the structure they will be able to read, write, update, append, appendto positions that are directly below their position in the direct ancestor path as well.

Example of this and how the controls are setup is articulated well here:

    technet.microsoft.com/.../dn832142.aspx

Please let me know if you need additional examples and I can help.

    Thanks much,
