Dynamics 365 Portal and team member licence

Hi,

We have a number of CRM users that have team member licences.  They need to update certain information on a Case and this is not possible with the team member licence permissions.

I note that because we have more than 4 app licences we get a Portal for free. I have heard that the team member users could use the portal to edit Cases without requiring their licence to change.  Is this possible with Portals? Any info would be great here (or some kind of MS chart showing what portal team member internal users can do!).

Thanks for any help,

Note:  Essentially, can a team member internal user do anything more through the Portal than they can through CRM directly?

    Thanks,

    Hello,

While technically a possibility, it is not allowed in the licencing.

Any employees of an organization that need to interact with data in Dynamics 365, via the regular web client, mobile client, portal or otherwise, require the appropriate Dynamics 365 license for the actions they will perform.

The only exemption is for non-employees, like partners, contractors, suppliers and your customers, they can interact via the Portal without a Dynamics 365 license.

See the official license guide on page 20, the second paragraph

"Internal users indirectly accessing Microsoft Dynamics 365 application data via a portal are required to have the appropriate Microsoft Dynamics 365 license"

Ah brilliant thanks for the clarification. I did think it sounded a bit strange!

    This is not valid anymore:

The license guide describes it like:

External user access does not extend to your employees, onsite or independent contractors, vendors, agents, or those of your affiliates who are providing business processes on behalf of you or an affiliate. Those users are considered internal users. External user access also does not extend to contractors, vendors, or agents who are using Dynamics 365 to manage any portions of their business (such as accounting, payroll, human resources, telemarketing, data recording, or social media marketing.). In this sense, you may not use Dynamics 365 to outsource business processes.
