Unit of Measure when less than a unit

I have a unit if measure problem.  For example, a unit of ours can have 12 bottles in a box.  1 Unit = 12 Bottles.  So, I have a unit of measure schedule of an inner (or bottle) to be 1/12th of a unit or a Bottle = .08333, fully using the 5 decimals places available.  We have large customers that only order by the bottle, via EDI that I can't change.

So, when they order 12 bottles it does not equal 1 unit.  It equals .99996 ... which should be 1 unit.  This is causing problems when picking the order(s).  Anybody know how to get around this kind of issue?

The only solution I know would be to switch to a Base U of M of Bottles.  This will probably not be popular with your warehouse manager.  Your customers will be able order in Bottles or Units and your purchasing department will be able to order it in appropriate units.  All your inventory reports and inquiries will report Bottles though.

the best thing for GP purposes is to start with the smallest unit of measure and work your way up.

with a volume unit of measure such as bottle I would even ponder using ML or Litre in metric , or oz or gallons in imperial.

then you will be able to have different sized bottles as well as bottles, units of bottles (cases).

With the translations in place you should be able to write reports that will please all users.

I would suggest to consider the "Bottle" as the base Unit of Measurement as well.

Tim is right that it may not be popular with warehouse staff, but a Base UOM of bottles would work the best.

We have in the past used the Distribution Elementz module from www.gpelementz.com to get round the warehouse staff issue.

Distribution Elementz has various Inventory View windows that have the ability to switch the quantity views into different units of measure (based on each Inventory Item's specific options).

Just thought it was worth mentioning...
