User Passwords not matching between two TS in GP 10

Posted on by 305

All,

I have two terminal servers in my GP environment. One is an x86 Windows 2003 and I just brought up an x64 Windows 2003 to share the user load. The problem that I am having is that a user that logins to the x64 box his password doesn't work unless we reset it on that box. Once we change the password the user can login in the x64 box but not the x86 box. Has anybody encountered this problem??? The only other behavoiur worth noting is that the connections in the x64 box doesn't match what is currently in the Data Sources menu in control panel. SA can login from both of the boxes so I know we are hitting the same server.

thank you for posting the code for preventing users to login to multiple companies at the same time in your blog .... I am running into that problem in my environment and that code will help us out a lot!

On your 64bit server you MUST use 32 bit ODBC for Dynamics GP as it is a 32 bit application.

Sounds like you are changing 64 bit ODBC settings which are NOT used by Dynamics GP.

Please see the  following KB about support for 64 bit.

I think this is the exactly the problem that I am having. I will check those settings since I am sure they are not the same right now. The one thing I wanted to ask you is that I notice that no matter what changes I make to the ODBC datasources in the x64 server it doesn't seem to update the list that it shows in the dropdown when opening GP. Actually the list that GP is showing is an outdated list of ODBC connections that are no longer in the ODBC datasources in the server.

Any idea why this is happening???? BTW nice blog you have ... the posting about preventing multiple login to other company databases will resolve a huge problem we were having in our environment. Thanks for all the help and the info!!!

Make sure you are using 32 bit ODBC on the 64 bit server.

Also make sure that the DSN is using the exact same Server name.  Make sure that the case is the same and that the address is the same.  Either both IP or both machine name etc.

I think the problem you are having relates the password encryption used by Microsoft Dynamics GP.  The encryption uses the server name in the algorithm and so is sensitive to changes in server name or address.

    hope this helps.
