Missing components in Planned Production Orders

Our company is a contract manufacturer that produces several finished goods out of many of the same components.

For example:

It takes A, B, and C to make Z

It takes B and C(x2) to make Y

It takes A, C, and D to make X.

When I run a Forecast Schedule and then a Master Schedule, the system says that I need to produce A, C, X, Y, and Z, but not B.  I know that there is no way to create all the A, C, X, Y, and Zs without B.

Can anyone explain what I need to do within AX in order to fix this problem?

Thanks!!!

I guess the obvious first question is:  are your BOM's setup correctly?

To the best of my knowledge, yes.  I am a new user of Dynamics but have a good understand of the BOMs and the way they are set up in this system.

By clicking on the BOM for the finished good, it clearly lists the appropriate sub-assemblies that are required to make the finished good.

Do you already have stock for item B?

Yes. We keep stock for B in the warehouse, and then add a smaller component to B before creating X.

I'm sure this system is confusing - this is my second week here and I'm struggling to understand it.

Take a look at the net requirement screen via the item master for B, no planned prod orders at all?  Its tough trying to help without knowing exactly how your system is setup.

Alright, I found that screen. Now what exactly am I looking for here.. Also, am I looking at the new Requirement Screen for B or for all of the finished goods that B is a sub-assembly for?

    Hi,

If you haven't figured it out yet, it might be helpful to check this:

    * Set explosion time fence on master Plan to greater number of days

    * When using phantom bom lines -> check phantom items requirement settings:

      - Use enough days of Time fence on requirement group of item (or overrule on Master plan)

      - Make sure that requirement setting is set to need and not manual

(when set to manual no coverage/explosion in MRP planned order)

    Good luck!

What is the inventory coverage code setup for B? Is the qty of B >1 in Y?

    Another thing to think about...

If you have stock of B, and B is listed as an "Item" item type on Y's BOM, AX likely won't require you build it.  However, if you want to force AX to create a sub-assembly production order every time, you can use the "pegged supply" line type on Y's BOM instead.

Hope this helps.  If it doesn't please try to provide some additional information about what behavior you're expecting.

    Thanks,

    Jake
