High usage of email entity by SYSTEM causes throttling and mailbox alerts

Hello experts,

we have an environtment where there is a very high usage of email entity, ~1 million retrieve operations occures daily by SYSTEM account.

This started approximately 2 month ago,formerly it was not noticable.

I checked, no new workflows or changes added to the environtment which can cause this kind of high usage, there is only 58000 emails synced.

The following error messages causes mailbox alerts daily, more and more frequently:

Mailbox Configuration Validation Failed. CrmException occured: Number of requests exceeded the limit of 6000 over time window of 300 seconds.

We using Exchange server side sync, no changes applied to its settings a year ago.

What can be the root cause of this?

How can it be solved?

    Hi regex91,

    This error message occurs when threshold has been reached on the CloudSSS. 

    As this is an set limitation on Cloud SSS they need an Opt-Out.

    You need open ticket for Microsoft support to opt the org out of CloudSSS and moved to legacy SSS.

    Sorry, but I'm not sure what CloudSSS and SSS means in this Dynamics 365 customer service context.

    Hi regex91,

    SSS is Server-side synchronization, which is the preferred option for organizations with users who run customer engagement apps in a web browser or on a mobile device.

    When you set mailbox, you need select it:

    Cloud SSS is upgrade of the SSS, it is possible that it has enabled automatically in your org.

    The error you are experiencing is most likely due to cloud SSS, so i suggest that you raise ticket for Microsoft support.
