Wacky issue with new printer

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by Microsoft Employee

A customer of mine recently purchased a new printer, and now when they print out any GP report (including the AP check - yikes!) instead of printing actual information, the printer prints what looks like a bunch of bar codes.

Has anyone ever seen this happen before? It's tough to explain what it looks like, so I've attached a screenshot of on of their posting journals.

Here's a little more background info:

  • We just upgraded to them from GP 9 to GP 2015 R2. They've been live for about 2 months with no printing issues until they got the new printer last month
  • Documents from other applications print without any issues
  • When they print to the screen or to another printer, there are no issues
  • Printer is a Xerox Phaser 4622

Thanks everyone for the responses! It ended up being a driver issue. Their IT person had been trying to install different drivers and nothing seemed to be working until he installed a postscript driver. I'm not sure which one it was exactly, but I know it wasn't the PCL 5 or PCL 4.

In your Xerox driver there is a setting called "Enhanced Printing Features" that needs to be set to Disabled.

Printing Preferences >> Advanced >> Driver >> Enhanced Printing Features : Disabled

    Michael,

I agree with the 2 other replies... Printing issues are mostly related to driver bugs or issues.. The same goes for Adobe in it's latest instance which seems to have issue when it comes to print some customized POP blank reports (only half of the page gets printed, the bottom is blank). Using a different PDF printer queue works fine.

We had had issues with Check printing on an HP LJ 4000 and updating the drivers to the PCL 6 or PS solved part of the issues (not all). Nowadays with the Windows Universal Printing platform, it becomes harder and harder for manufacturers to tweak their drivers as much as in the days of custom drivers.

    Hi Michael,

I have a Xerox Phaser 4622 and GP2013R2. Using the PCL6 driver seems to work fine for us. I am not sure if this will hold true with GP2015R2.

    Good Luck!

I have seen this before in other scenarios.  Typically it is the print driver.  This happens when other programs are able to use the fonts on the current driver and with the update to 2015 R2 it can use more advanced fonts then the current driver.   I would recommend updating the print driver to a Post Script driver.  The downloads can be found here:  http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-4622/downloads/enus.html?operatingSystem=win10x64  There are three that you should look at PCL5, PCL6 and PS.  If I was installing then I would start with the PS driver.
