AIF ODATA query service access outside the server

Hi guys,

Maybe you know about this nice (i'd say a bit hidden) feature in AX 2012 AIF framework. If not, I recommend to read this blog post: OData Query Service

SO, I have created a very simple Query in AOT, activated it as Document data source under Organization Administration > Setup > Document management > Document data sources, and then opened this URL in Internet Explorer directly on the server:

And I am getting the data back. Looks good. It doesn't even ask me for credentials.

However, when I try to open the URL from another machine, I am being prompted for credentials (looks like basic HTTP authentication or forms authentication), I am getting the error HTTP 400 Bad request.

  • There is no firewall between the machines
  • I am using same credentials
  • In the event log on the server, I am getting following info message:
Object Server 01:  RPC error: RPC exception 1702 occurred in session 20 process is Ax32Serv.exe thread is 22496(User: wpross, ClientType: Worker)

Thanks for your help!

I would assume the second machine you are trying to connect from is in the same (sub)network. You should try to add in Internet Explorer your AOS's name (or IP) to the list of Security -> Local intranet sites (using the Advanced button, and while disabling the Automatically detect).

Hi Iulian. Unfortunately this didn't help. I will post the resolution separately.

Hi all. I resolved th problem by changing the authentication of the binding name="ODataQueryServiceBinding" in Ax32Serv.exe.config to basic.

    Similar to this:

OK for the benefit of other users... I did try the binding changes suggested in this post and although it worked via IE on remote PCs, it then didn't work to call the data via PowerPivot so I ended up changing them back.

However, changing the server name for the IP address worked for me as per this other post on the same topic.
