Hi,

Is MS Dynamics GP 2010 compatible with MS SQL Server 2005?

I want to upgrade a GP 10 installation which is using MSDE 2000.

Thx

GP 10 is compatible with SQL Server 2005 and SL Server 2008. You will need to be on SP5 of GP 10 for SQL Server 2008. Are you doing an inplace upgrade of SQL or are you moving the data to a new server? Once you are done you are going to want to change the compatiblity level of the GP databases to match that of whatever version of SQL you are using.

    Hi Sam,

If you do plan on having GP 10 run on MS SQL Server 2005, You will want to also apply service pack 2 or service pack 3. You will also have to change the compatibility level as well like Richard said. Here's a link to the Microsoft Documentation for System Requirement for Dynamics GP 10.

    Overview

This document contains the minimum client hardware requirements, server recommendations and Terminal Server minimum hardware requirements supported by Microsoft Business Solutions. The following server recommendations are not minimum server requirements. The requirements and recommendations are based on experience with many different installations. Users may need to increase these requirements due to environmental factors to achieve individual performance expectations.

Review each Customer Profile below to determine what profile best fits the user count, modules used and transaction volume for your environment. Use that Customer Profile as a recommendation for your server hardware implementation.

    NOTES

    1. NEW! Windows Hotfix KB 983533 is required for Microsoft Dynamics GP to be supported with the TS RemoteApp feature in Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2.  Click HERE to review a Hot Topic for more details.

    2. It is recommended to have a dedicated Terminal Server/Citrix Server. There may be performance losses if Microsoft SQL Server is running on the Terminal Server/Citrix Server. Therefore, it is highly recommended to have two separate servers. One server with Terminal Server and/or Citrix and one server with Microsoft SQL Server.

    3. Refer to the 64-bit, SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 Support Matrix under note #7 below to verify all products used are compatible.

    4. If accessing Citrix, the hardware and software must be supported according to the Citrix configuration requirements.

    5. Make sure processors can be upgraded to 4 processors for Standard Edition or 8 processors for Enterprise Edition

    6. The amount of RAM needed depends on the number of concurrent users per Terminal Server.

    7. Recommend no more then 25 users per 100 Base T network card, unless a Fiber NIC is installed. If a Fiber NIC is installed, the SQL Server should also have a Fiber NIC installed for optimal network performance.

    8. Verify switch is capable of handling network traffic

    9. Increased user count may require greater RAM and Processor speed

    10. Users utilizing FRx or Crystal reporting via Terminal Services may require increased hardware to increase performance.

    11. When you deploy a system in a virtual environment, make sure that you have sufficient hard disk space to avoid performance problems. Each computer that you deploy in a virtual environment should meet or exceed the random access memory (RAM) requirements and the hard disk space requirements.
