Web client prompting for GP credentials for Self-service users

Hello,

I have a client that is trying to setup a self-service user with access to GP. They created the user with their windows profile, set it to self service, assigned company access, and ESS requisition access. When they log into web client with that windows user, it brings up the GP login window where you need to specify a GP/SQL user. To troubleshoot, I specified the password for the Web Client SQL Server login using utilities, and it still prompted afterwards. We then ran a repair of GP on the web client server, and it still prompted. We then deleted the web client user in SQL, recreated it, and used Utilities to specify the password again. It is still prompting for GP credentials. I also ran a repair of the web client itself, and the same behavior is occurring. Any suggestions/ideas on how to resolve this?

Thank you!

Kayla

Kayla when you get to the login screen there should be a drop down choice that allows you to use the Windows ID verses the SQL Authenticator

I don’t have access to my system right now - but post back if this does not resolve.

If they switch it to windows, and select login, it says login failed. What I am used to seeing if a user is setup in GP with their AD credentials, once they put in their windows credentials in the first login window, it should bring up the company select window, and bypass the GP login screen.

Is this the window we are talking about?  Sorry if not the right version, but this is the first one I have access to this morning.

If you need additional support, send me a private message and I will see what we can do.

    Hello Bill,

That is the window that is coming up, but I wouldn't expect it to if the Windows account is setup in GP, it should bypass this window. If they select Directory account, it blanks out user ID and password, and if they click login, it gives them the error that the login failed. I am having them recreate the user, and ensure that the user is resolving in AD, and have them try again. Thank you for your offer for help!

    Regards,

Kayla, I think it still stops here - if you are not using the Directory Account option.  If you you are using the other option, then you will need to use the GP user name and password created in the application.

This is where it is confusing, but on this window you DO NOT use the AD user name and password.  Here you use the GP User.

    Hope this helps.

Kayla, I have just been able to do some additional testing myself and I now understand your matter much better, I am encountering the same issue.

I log on and as long as I enter a valid GP generated USER ID and Password I am good

I log on and use SQL Account it fails.

Microsoft might need to weigh in on this one as I have generated two new users and all fail.  Created from the same workstation and done from the same server - no change.  Users have POWERUSER creds and the Domain User is a DOMAIN ADMIN

Kayla be safe and keep posting as you move forward.

Kayla, and Microsoft - I have now wasted about 5 hours on this problem and am no further ahead than when I first read Kayla's note.  I figured it was just a permission matter - nope - not that I can figure out anyway.

I have re-installed/rebuilt - no difference.  I a created a new VM for this and created all the integration points ( i hope ) as a domain admin and still get the same result.   When it stops at the GP Login window for a WEB ONLY User - it still fails

I created a WEB ONLY User ID in GP, gave the ID PowerUser access and assigned the ID to the same DOMAIN ID that is running all the services / is the only User ID that is used in the configuration of the Web Client Components and still it fails to allow this user to log into the system.

What the heck did I miss.  This became frustrating about 3:00 am the other night, then it became personal at 4:00 am last night - I have to get this resolved.

    Hello Bill,

I have opened a ticket with Microsoft to address. I will post back the resolution once it is resolved. Thank you for your diligence!

    Hey Bill,

In Kayla's case at least the problem was that their policy was to have passwords at least 16 characters in length, but the Password field for the Web Client SQL Login in GP Utilities only holds 15 characters.  When they pasted their longer password in the last couple characters were cut off, so it did not properly sync with the password for that same user that was entered in the Web Client installation.  Once we got a shorter password put in both places it worked great.

Also, make sure that the case of the login name is exactly the same between the two places.  That could cause Identity Management to stop working as well.

As long as Identity Management is working and the domain account you logged into Web Client as is tied to a GP User you should be taken directly to company selection.  If your user is not tied to a GP User then you should get the same GP login window between the site login and the company selection.
