Import into a lookup field?

Hi All,

I am attempting to import date from an 'Accounts_Template_Export' form but I am having some difficulties.

There are around 900 lines on the sheet.
There are around 50 company names
The unique 50 companies above have a 3 letter short parentcode that we would like them to link too.

When I attempt to import this data, the 'parentaccountid' field says that is a lookup and therefore it errors during the import.
Quite simply, all I want to do is to import the data into the appropriate field without it trying to lookup.  So that each company name has an appropriate 3 letter short code.
What am I doing wrong?

Help greatly appreciate.

If you are trying to import text into a lookup field that won't work - the value needs to relate back to another record. Otherwise you'd need to use a different field.

If you are trying to do a lookup based on the 3 character code, have a look at this blog post - it should help you set up a mapping for a lookup field:

    Sorry, one new question.

I have the new field created and imported the data but when I use the search tool, it appears to be searching based on company name and not the 3 letter company code.  Is it possible to adjust the what the search field looks at so that it picks up the 3 letter company code?

    Oh I think I understand.

I will take a closer look.

Thanks Jason!  about to put another question up!

Ok, so on reflection and looking again I do not think I explained very well.

Essentially, I am looking to change the 'quick search' box so that it looks at a different field or multiple fields.  In the example of 'accounts' it appears to be looking up the Company Name rather than the 3 letter code I setup.  Is this customisable?

I found this which seems to indicate that it may not be possible to have multiple fields searched out of the box : crmbook.powerobjects.com/.../searching-crm
