Can i install the manufacturing module into a test company database only or does it install across all databases? i am contemplating switching from the basic inventory BOM & Kits, but would like to test it first.

It will install in all databases Jeff. However, you could 'hide' access to it in your production DBs via Security. It doesn't add any modified windows to the app like Project Accounting does, although it does add more selections to the 'Additional' button in some windows, i.e. Sales Transaction Entry.
