Email Status not updating as "Failed" when "To" having Invalid Emails along with Valid emails - Dynamics 365

Hi All,

1. Email "CC" or "BCC" working as expected. Anyone of the Email is Invalid, email status is "Failed"
2. Email "To" having 2 emails invalid domain then Email status updating as "Failed".

but, Email Status not updating as "Failed" when "To" having Invalid Emails along with Valid emails.
1. Email "To" having 2 email addresses (1 valid domain, 1 not valid). Email status updating as "Send".

We are using server side sync. We have checked Async service Traces, its returning "Mailboxunavailable" relay error. But, Email status updated as "Send".

Is there any settings for "To" field to consider as "Success" if anyone of the email is success? Any suggestion on this area?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

Are you using Dynamics 365 Online or On-premise ? Do you mean "Status Reason" by Email Status

I tried to replicate this issue in my local online environment, found we can't replicate it.

It will be helpful if you can share some screenshots

    HI @Anthony Dong,

    Thanks for the Response.

We are using Dynamics 365 On-Premise with Server side sync. Yes, Im referring StatusReason field.

Our SMTP Relay service allows only specific domain emails like 'abc@Domain.com'.

If we use any other domain email like 'abc@DomainABCD.com.in", Relay service is not allowing to send an Email.

In this case, Relay service returning an Error "Mailbox unavailable. 5.7.1 unable to relay". But, email status updating as "Sent".

But, we are expecting "Fail" for Status Reason if anyone of the Email is having wrong domain. [As I said CC, BCC workign as expected. if anyone of the email is wrong then status is Fail]

    Hi Prasad,

Thank you for explaining this. Dynamics 365 use SMTP server to send email, Dynamics has no ability to decide if an email is sent successfully or not. It still depends on the relay  service from Email server. When email is created in Dynamics 365 and user click "Send' button, system will make the Status Reason as "Sent", this should be by design.

If you want to let Status Reason show as "Failed" when Relay service returning an Error "Mailbox unavailable. 5.7.1 unable to relay", you may need to do some customization to realize this. As in OOTB function, there is no such feature

    Hi @Anthony Dong,

Yes, its purely depending on Relay service. Even we are receiving Failure in Traces, Email status updated to Sent. This is happening only for "To" but Cc and Bcc working fine.

As a workaround, we have added To list to Bcc while sending an Email. By, this we achieved the end goal. [But only limitation is user could see same recipients in To and BCC. We have explained the limitation and users agreed for this].
