Hello
I have both Google Analytics and the D365 marketing code installed on my site.
The visitor numbers and pages viewed are quite different for each. Google Analytics tends to record more visits and a larger variety of pages. There isn't a pattern to this. I'm sure both codes are on all pages.
Do you know any reasons why the two methods record differently? How can I diagnose further?
Thanks
Pete
Hi Pete,
Thanks for your sharing!
Thanks - I've investigated more and looked at the traffic in detail which was appearing in GA, but not in Marketing.
Most of the traffic which wasn't appearing in Marketing, looked spammy to me (1 page, short visit, same domain, same browser etc.)
So that explains it, I think.
Thanks
Pete
Hi Pete,
We have received feedback from our Dev team, their conclusion on this scenario:
The reason why there are more click interactions registered might be duo to a slightly increased amount of activity made by link scanners or BOTs, which check email content, e.g. email client security protection or crawlers. We have certain mechanisms to block these calls made by BOTs however there are cases when it's not 100% clear to distinguish a BOT from a real user.
Next major improvement to prevent from false positive BOT actions is to leverage device finger printing approach using one of our own Microsoft technologies. This will improve these kind of scenarios significantly. The feature is currently predicted on our road map but we don’t yet have a timeline for release.
Has mentioned above the difference in numbers between Marketing App and GA could be cause by these Scanners or Bots, other than that our Dev team confirmed that the insights are being correctly collected.
Unfortunately we will not be able to vouch for how Google Analytics works and collects insights.
