Tracking Status History of a Field

I have an "update status" field on my task entity. My objective is to track the status history of this field with time stamps...basically the same way notes work. is there a way to add a note section to tasks or some other way to keep a running log of status updates?

    enable auditing on this  entity that will automatically track the status change with date time as well user

    is the auditing view-able on the task record form view?

    you should be able to view the auditing record by clicking on the navigation bar "Audit History" . You have to adjust the security role to have access to this.

    i'm actually looking for something a little more searchable and visible. Thanks anyway! My initial thought was to do a workflow on the field update to capture the text and and add it to a field that is a running log of all statuses entered into the status update field.

    You could do that.

    1.Create  Multi line text field

    2.Add a workflow to fire on change of the status and append the text to the new field.

    Royal King but that would only record the last change right to the field? not all changes? Can you specify that I want to record the previous 5 changes?
