hello

when we enter an order, it generates the posting date of the date we enter an order. but lets say 2 weeks later i want to post the order , it posts with the date i entered the order. so when i go to ledger entries it shos posting date 2 weeks ago but i really posted today. why is that happening. it should be the day i post.

and one thing i dont understand still. you enter 100 orders in 10 days . and you want to invoice. how in the world would the posting date stay the date you entered the order. it doesnt make sense. the posting date shows when it was invoiced and when it was shipped. so why would it stay the order date you entered. euufff

If you are doing a number of shipment/invoices together then use the "Post Batch" option which allows you to replace the posting date for the batch

You can default the posting date to blank if you're using version 5.0SP1 and NAV2009. This way, the user will need to specify the posting date during posting.

For allow posting to, I usually recommend clients to set it 2- 3 months ahead.

fine i can have it modified. but like i said in the general ledger setup or user setup it asks for specirfic dates. how about if i put 6-1-09 to 6-30-09. the next month i need to go and change it to 7-1-09 to 7-31-09?

Work date and posting dates are different.Microsoft Dynamics goes on posting date and not work date.

    that is company policy specific.
in ours our posting date is always on the day we post (TODAY)  and our workdate is also the same.
different companies might do it different for differnet reasons.  I find it rare when we actualy alter the WORKDATE from equaling TODAY

    Hi George,

Yes this requires a development license but it's a very minor mod.

The date range is set in the User Setp form Administration -> Application setup -> Users -> User Setup. Also it's a good idea to set the general ledger setup as well.

    Re: posting date

You are supposed to update the posting date when you post.

Or if you batch post you can set the date on the request form.

You could on the Sales Header form add:
    OnAfterGetCurrRecord<>
    If "Posting Date" <> TODAY then "Posting Date" := Today;

This will keep you posting dates current everytime you look at the order.
Today can be replaced with WORKDATE if you wish.

Another way would be to blank out the posting date on order creation - therefore forcing you to enter it before posting.
but we've been using the code below for years - works fine.  Note you should also be setting Posting Date Ranges in user or G/L Setup too as extra protection.  Each month we change the allowable posting dates to the month we're in. This stops accidental posts into past months or even years.

If "Posting Date" <> TODAY then "Posting Date" := Today
