Visual Studio 2019 Dynamics F&O extension

Hello:
We just built a new all-in-one development box. Visual Studio 2019 and 2022 are both on this box. VS 2019 does not have the Finance and operations (Dynamics 365) extension installed. Poking around, I see that it is listed under the Roaming extension manager within Manage extension window, but I don't know what this mean or how to get it installed within VS 2019.
VS2022 does have the extension. However, unlike with VS 2019, it appears I need to now have a license. The box was just stood up within the week but the trial license has expired already.

    Use VS 2022, and deploy a new build environment to replace your old one. You could even try out Azure DevOps hosted builds, so you no longer need to maintain a build environment.
     
    For the license, you had potentially previously entered a license Key, but VS2019 definitely also needed licensing.

    Hi,

    FYI, older versions of Visual Studio will not be supported anymore. Thee was a blog with this announcement posted by Microsoft last year August: We are deprecating earlier versions of Visual Studio for Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations development | Power Platform Developer Blog
     
    So all Dynamics 365 development tools now only provided for Visual Studio 2022.

    Thank you for the reference link. Do you know whether we're now required to use VS 2022 when we are on F&O 10.0.42? I'd like to continue to use VS 2019 if possible.

    Hello Andre,

    Yes, I deployed a new VM using LCS. Both VS 2019 and 2022 were installed, but 2019 doesn't appear to have the D365 Dynamics extension available so I can't build or DB sync. I failed to mention this box was built with F&O 10.0.42.

    I also attempted to update a VM which we use for package builds, and one of the failures indicated VS 2022 was not installed. Not sure if we're being forced to move to VS 2022 or if there's a workaround so we're able to continue to use VS2019.

    For VS 2022, you’ll need a valid license. If the trial expired, you may need to purchase or activate a Visual Studio Developer or Dynamics 365 subscription.

    Can you explain what exactly you mean by "built a new all-in-one development box"? Did you install all individual software components or did you deploy a VM via LCS or downloaded a preconfigured VHD from LCS?
     
    Note that for all Visual Studio versions you need a license. It might be the case that you can try 30 days for free, but if you want to continue developing you need a Visual Studio license, regardless if it is VS2019, VS2022 or any other version of Visual Studio.
