Mobile Device Suggest Location AX 2012 R3 Warehouse Management - Purchase Orders

I have seen other posts concerning this topic, but still cannot get it to work. I have a PUT location directive for my warehouse and I have followed other blog posts without success. The last one said to have a location directive with a line that allowed a split, and my location directive action has a query that says the item should be put in a location profile ID of PICK. Work template is a simple pick and put.

Nothing ever comes up with the mobile device Suggest Location button.

Can someone detail the steps to make it happen?

    Hi Howard,

I would suggest you to download the free Warehouse Management System Implementation guide for AX 2012 R3. This will guide you step by step how to setup WMS and the use of the mobile device.

Thanks, I've done that. It is not clear exactly what enables a location to be suggested when clicking on "Suggest Location." It appears it all has to do with the Location Directives, work templates, and mobile device menu item, but I have not been able to get it to work.

    Hi Howard,

The work that is created will have a 'Put' location if the location directive can find a valid one. In that case you will not need to use 'Suggest' to get a suggested Put location to appear on the handheld. Does the putaway work have a Put location, or is the Put location blank?

The Suggest button re-runs the location directive, but excludes from the result any location that has already been suggested. The outcome is that if you keep pressing 'Suggest' it will run through all locations that the location directive could suggest, in the order specified by the 'Sorting' on the query on the location directive action (or in Location Id order, if no sorting is defined).

Makes sense. For my putaway location, I have a location profile ID, like a Bulk location. I get the button to suggest a location, but nothing ever appears there. I am specifically trying to show how the system would pick a location that would meet the criteria of having room to store the items in the PO.

Can you pls provide some screen shots? e.g.

    - the work from the All Work screen

    - work creation history log

    - locations with Bulk profile ID

    - location directive

    Dear HowardLeCover,

You have to configure your mobile device properly.
    1. Use Purchase Order Receive and Put away
    2. Define your work template
    3. Location directive action give the desired location profile ID
    4. If you want put the item on fixed location you have ti define the fixed location.
    5. Based on location profile id system will suggest you put location.

Sorry about the multiple posts for pictures, seems like I had to work to get the files the right size.

    Hi Howard,

On the Work template query, can you:

    • Change the first line to Table = Temporary work transactions, Field = Warehouse, Criteria = 33
    • Remove the second line (the one for Location profile ID).

On the Location directive Line, clear the 'Unit' field (so that it is blank).

Does your menu item say Directed by 'User grouping'? Change it to None (or System directed, if you want to skip the 'Scan a Work ID' prompt).

Then try again. If that doesn't help, take the 'Location profile ID' off of the query on the Location directive action - just to see what happens.
