I am looking for an alternative to eConnect for our MS Dynamics GP clients. This is especially true for our clients that have webstores. I have heard of SmartConnect from eOne. What does SmartConnect give our clients that eConnect does not? Are there other products out there that we can use? Please let me know any recommendations.

Richard, I'm no SmartConnect guru but I do know that it provides a much more user-friendly interface than does eConnect. It's almost drag-and-drop. it also makes scheduling integrations a snap.

So if it just another layer that sits on top of eConnect I just assume stay with eConnect. Perhaps as an Integration Manager replacement it might make sense.

All of the advertised eConnect "replacements" I've seen have still required eConnect in the background; they just supply a layer on top that is more user friendly. They use eConnect to do the data push/pull because this, along with web services, is the approved way of interacting with Dynamics GP.

As Frank and Ian have mentioned, SmartConnect sits on top of econnect and it's most often used as an IM replacement. However, it does have some powerful monitoring and scheduling features. For example, it can regularly check a database source for changes or new records and automatically integrate them. It also doesn't require a developer to build integrations.

How do large companies handle a large volume of web orders? We have someone who processes about 10,000 order per month. Do these orders get pushed into GP immediately or is there an hourly polling process that occurs? What is the preferred standard practice to get these transacrtions into GP?

Hi Richard,

I've installed Nolan Business Solution's SOP Import before to import data into GP from ecommerce sites.

It can be set to read data from either a csv text file or from a set of SQL tables. It can run on either a scheduled time or interval basis dependent on requirements.

Ian, with Nolan how do you handle the need to see inventory stock quantities when customers are shopping on the web store? I am used to the solution from Nodus that has a synchronizer module that sits between the GP SQL database and the web store SQL database. Customers and items are sent to the webstore automatically. The linkage needs to be real time. Unfortunately, for some reason, my client refuses to consider Nodus. This is why I am looking for alternative solutions.

Hi Richard,

The client in question didn't put stock levels up on their website.

The Nolan's solution is only a SOP import routine and doesn't send data the other way.

You might want to look at Azox's webstore modules. They show invenotry real time and orders are immediatley in GP. Not sure if you have to migrate the webstore to their stuff or not. We have multiple customers using their products.
