How can I disable look fo in lookup record

Posted on by 80

I would like user to not be able to change look up for.

I know that in other lookup fields we do have possibility to make  'look for' read only using field properties, but not this one.

do you have any suggestion?

    Hi Ama,

Unfortunately, the default owner lookup does not allow for additional properties to show, remove or set default views:

Whereas other lookups will allow the additional properties to be included:

There are a few ways to resolve this however. The first would be to create a new lookup to the user entity, then you will be able to add additional properties to the lookup. Then set a business rule/workflow in place that each time this new lookup is updated, to update the original (hidden) owner lookup.

The second would be to use JScript to manipulate the lookup views: https://community.dynamics.com/crm/b/crminogic/archive/2014/09/15/add-custom-view-in-lookup-and-disable-all-the-other-views

Note: I am unsure if this is still supported.

Last but not least, you could deactivate the views you do not want the user to use. This way, you can setup your own personal views that would not influence any other users:

    Hi Ama,

Disabling search option is not possible in the lookup , you can do alternate way  like add custom filter to the lookup where only lookup shows the data based on filter condition.

    Hope this helps.

hello, it is default owner field.

but I don't need to make the field read only. I just want user to not be able to change lookup for when they look for more records

    Hi Ama,

Is that because the lookup is the default owner field?

Have you tried using a business rule on the form to Lock the field OnLoad?

Another solution that might answer your query is the following: https://community.dynamics.com/crm/f/117/t/79588

Let me know if this helped.

I can see read only there on the first image but there are many ways to do this.  I would recommend using field level security.
