Upgrade path from 1.2 to 2.0 on a new server

We have a client who has a failing 2003 server running RMS 1.2.0185 and they don't have any proper server backups. I managed to do a file copy to get all the data off the failing drive and managed to get the server running for long enough to do an export from RMS (which created a .BCK file). The client needs to get a new server, we would rather avoid trying to source a copy of Server 2003 so would prefer to get a server running 2008R2 or 2012 which it looks like RMS 2.0 would support.

If we get a license for RMS 2.0 would it be possible to a do an import (and upgrade) from the .BCK file or is some other type of backup required?

Hi Danny: RMS journal is not transferred to RMH when you upgrade. The RMH journal shows only new transaction entries from RMH POS. The retailer would still need to keep a copy of RMS running to look up old journal files (although looking up customer purchase history may be possible). Once upgraded, can you still view the old receipts (from RMS 1.3 or 2.0.x) in RMH 3.5?

Hi - there is a way to do this (just did this for a retailer on RMS 1.2 who went to RMS 2.02 and then to RMH 3.5. Is the customer current on their annual RMS software maintenance? That would be critical in order to obtain the upgrade to RMS 2.02.
