Microsoft Dynamics GP (Archived)

Performance Point and its future

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

We have implemented a Power Pivot for SharePoint as well as Performance Point solution at a client, using SharePoint 2013

I have recently read though that Performance Point is set to die with SharePoint 2015.

In terms of the features (Analytic Chart) within performance Point like Drilldown and Decomposition Tree is there a replacement planned, or will the existing features like Power Pivot and Power view simply be enhanced?

Thank you

    Hi Neil,

From the Dynamics GP standpoint we are moving away from SharePoint but this has no reflection on the direction on SharePoint. We are moving towards more applications such as Business Analyzer, SRS, Windows Apps, and having more features within GP itself.

RE: Performance Point and its future

    Hello again Neil,

In my opinion, this could be true. I am not quite sure whether Microsoft has decided to kill SharePoint or not. But what I am quite sure about is that Microsoft has already started to break the dependency between Dynamics GP specifically and SharePoint. The old requisition management built on Business Portal used to be completely dependent on SharePoint, actually it is a prerequisite to have SharePoint server / Foundation to install business portal. Now, with the new release of GP 2013 R2, things have become clear, a complete new requisition management has been built inside Dynamics GP, with an independent workflow engine. You do not need SharePoint/ Business Portal anymore to deploy the workflow engine. In this essence, I have read an interesting article on MS Dynamics World recently saying Goodbye: Microsoft to Replace Dynamics GP Business Portal by 2015.

I have worked on Performance Point and Power Pivot, for me Performance Point is one of the thing that I highly admire about SharePoint, especially the great functionality related to drill down capabilities and decomposition trees. I have no answer at all whether they are planning to kill SharePoint, but again, I have been there and heard the same rumors over and over again.

I believe that Power Pivot will have an added value (in time), to provide a great representation layer. Business Analyzer for Dynamics GP is considerable as well.

After all, I have nothing official to be considered, just a couple of statements representing my own humble opinion.
