Conditionally skip adding a Sub Component to a Product Configurator model

Posted on by 415

I am in the process of building a configurator model for a company that produces chairs. I am using Sub components for several subassemblies of the chair as they can be sold separately and I am reusing the models for these subassemblies.

There are a few cases where certain subassemblies are not required for certain models of chair.

How can I use a calculation or a constraint to NOT use Sub-components for certain models of chair? I tried using a calculation to set the subassembly item based on the model but being that a fixed list is required the item can't be blank. I seem to be able to skip BOM lines but not sub components.

Does anyone have a suggestion to accomplish this?

Thanks

Dan

That was the same approach I was considering when we decided to split the models. It was the only way I could think of to get around the issue.

I agree that this would be useful.  I'd recommend that one of you open a thread about this topic on the Ideas site, and share within this thread for other partners and customers to vote on.  Our Product group regularly reviews the highest voted topics to identify new features to develop and implement.

    Hi again,

Oh I see... it is a pitty, this function would be so useful. I was thinking on using another atribute to modify the Qty of the BOM line to 0. What do you think about? I think it would work but it will need more attributes to configure and mantain.

    Regards,

    Roger

    Roger -

At this point there is no resolution (functioning as designed) and it isn't on the roadmap. I ended up breaking the models up into groups based on the subcomponent instead of the parent.

    Hi DPerko,

I'm in the same trouble as you. I neither can't find a way to solve the problem. Please, can you keep us updated about the evolution of the ticket, if there's any solution or it will be in the next releases?

    Thank you for it,

    Roger

    Taylor -

No worries. I opened a ticket and it isn't supported.

    Hi Dan,

Sorry for the late reply.  If you're still having issues with this, I'd recommend opening a break/fix support case with our Supply Chain team and we'll spend the necessary time to help investigate this.

See the attached. I found no way to actually skip but was trying to set the Subcomponent item based on the model. Regardless of what model was selected Back and Seat were set with the same values.

    Hi Dan,

Can you provide any screenshots or examples of Constraints or Calculations that you have attempted up to this point?  You can also consider opening a support case with our SCM team regarding the inability to skip sub-components based on your above scenario.
