While Dynamics 365 doesn't provide out-of-the-box functionality for directly tracking serial numbers at the box level, you can achieve this by customizing the system to accommodate the packaging configurations while maintaining traceability at the individual item level.
Sure, use advanced warehousing, register the 12 or 6 serial numbers per box and RAF each box as its own license plate. You can do this out of the box, but a mod would make it much easier.
The out-of-the-box functionality for serial number tracking does not inherently support specific packaging configurations like boxes of 12 items.
To address this need:
Serial Number Tracking: Utilize D365FO's existing serial number tracking capabilities to associate serialized items with their respective boxes of 6 or 12. This can involve customizing the system to accommodate the packaging configurations while maintaining traceability at the individual item level.
Barcode Scanning and Authentication: Implement barcode scanning functionality within D365FO to enable customers to scan barcodes of purchased items and validate their authenticity. This may involve integrating with external systems or databases to cross-reference distributor-specific information and ensure the legitimacy of the products.
Customization and Validation: Consider customizing the system to support the specific requirements related to box configurations and serialization, ensuring that the tracking and authentication processes align with the customer's needs.
The original need of the customer was to be able to track items by serial numbers and manage them in the D365fo system as boxes of 6 and 12.
Customers must be able to scan a barcode of an item purchased from a distributor and authenticate that it was indeed intended to be sold by this distributor.
Can you tell more details? As you are using the abbreviation RAF, I do assume this is Register as Finished which is related to production orders. Are serialized items being consumed or produced? In case of the finished goods, what is the policy to determine the serial numbers? Do you want to handle the process on the Dynamics 365 client or the warehouse mobile device?
