POS 2009 freezes after clicking on manager view

Single register with local DB, running at SP1. All cashier functions work fine, but trying to enter the manager view hangs the whole app. Eventually, it gives a timeout error on accessing the database and crashes. The database looks fine from SQL server, and it responds to test queries. Tried a full uninstall/reinstall of the POS software, keeping the database intact. Profiler shows activity just after clicking the manager button, but no obvious errors. Anyone?
