Hi, just add some points if you don't apply entries.
In Customer Card, you can find Balance field.
Clicking it by default will open all Open records, and if you have never done an apply, there will be more and more records here. (The total amount is not affected)
And If you do not apply even after the Due Date has expired, the color will be red.

You use the apply to for closing open entries in your customer and vendor ledgers.
While applying the open entries you make it easier to figure out what entries are settled and what entries are not settled.
